I design and build both ends of the spectrum — clean marketing sites that turn visitors
into customers, and the logged-in software teams use every day to actually operate.
I'm Luke Lackey. I build the website a customer sees and the system your team logs into —
so the whole thing works as one piece instead of four tools taped together.
Selected Work
Four projects, two very different problems.
A public site has about five seconds to earn trust. A portal has to survive daily use by people
who didn't choose it. Both are on this page, oldest first.
The software a mentoring organization runs on. Four roles behind one front door —
matching, background checks, weekly check-ins, campaigns, curriculum, and the reporting
the board reads. Built so a volunteer can use it with no training at all.
A Waco general contractor doing everything from drywall to landscaping had one job for the site:
make a homeowner believe one crew can handle the whole property. Editorial serif headlines,
real project photography, and a quote form that's never more than one scroll away.
Basecamp in your pocket — a native iOS app, not a wrapped website. All four roles come
along, each built for what that person actually does on a phone. Over forty screens, now
one app in testing.
A bookkeeping and tax practice whose whole promise is precision you can count on —
so a careless site would have argued against its own headline. Navy and gold, an editorial
serif, and the two questions nobody asks answered in the open: what it costs, and what
happens after you call.
Every one of these is something I've already shipped — not a service list I'd like to
try. Design through launch, one point of contact.
Service & Practice Websites
The site a customer judges you by — a trade, a professional practice, any business bought on trust. Fast, mobile-first, written to convert, and easy to update without calling me.
The system your team logs into daily. Roles, permissions, dashboards, and admin tools built around how you actually work — not a template you bend to fit.
A site that looks dated, loads slow, or breaks on a phone — or a platform somebody else started and left. Often the highest-return project on your list.
Fixed quote, fast turnaround
How It Works
A short, predictable path.
No open-ended retainers and no mystery. You know what's happening at every step.
Conversation
A call about what the business does, who you're trying to reach, and what's actually broken. Free.
Direction
A fixed quote and a design direction — layout, type, color, structure — before a line of code.
Build
I build it on a private link you can watch come together and comment on as it goes.
Launch
Domain, hosting, and analytics wired up. Then I show you how to run it yourself.
About
I'm Luke Lackey.
I design and build for the web, and I work across a range most people don't — the polished
front door and the machinery behind it. A contractor's site that has to win a
homeowner in five seconds, and a portal where hundreds of mentors and students log in every week.
Working both ends changes how I design. A pretty site that generates leads your team can't
process isn't a win. Neither is powerful software nobody can figure out. I care about the whole
loop — from the first click to the work getting done.
One person start to finish — you talk to the person doing the work.
Fixed quotes agreed up front. No hourly surprises.
Built to be handed over — you own the domain, the code, and the accounts.
Based in Texas, working with clients anywhere.
Marketing sites & operating portals
Two disciplines most designers pick between — I build both, so they fit together.
Web and mobile
Responsive sites, logged-in web apps, and native mobile interfaces.
